Compared to May 2021, Tata Motors' passenger vehicle sales in May 2022, are up by a massive 185 per cent YOY (Year-Over-Year). In May 2021, the company managed to sell just 15,181 passenger vehicles. Tata Motors' EV sales are also up by a massive 626 percent. The company sold 3,454 EVs in May 2022 compared to 436 units in May 2021. The company's booming EV sales can be attributed to the popularity of the Nexon EV, Tigor EV and the recently-launched Nexon EV Max.

On the other hand, Hyundai Motor India (HMI) with a recorded cumulative sales of 51 263 units for the month of May 2022, stood third. Both HMI plants in Chennai observed the scheduled biannual maintenance shut down leading to no production for 6 days in the month (16th May to 21st May). This reduced the vehicle availability in the month affecting May sales numbers (domestic as well as exports).
